Description
A moody black and white thriller set during Chile’s 1973 military coup. Captain Jorge Silva, head of the Air Force Academy, is ordered to convert his military training camp into a prison camp. Will he obey, knowing the consequences for others, or risk his own life by resisting? The Red Hangar demonstrates the complex power structures within the military establishment, where guilt and responsibility are not always straightforward. A visually striking feature debut by director Juan Pablo Sallato.
The screening on October 9 will be introduced by Daniela Vicherat Matta, Associate Professor of Sociology at Leiden University. Her work and academic background are closely linked to Chile; she has published on relevant topics, such as the massive social protests and demonstrations in Chile that began in October 2019 (the so-called ‘Estallido Social’). For this introduction, LIFF is collaborating with LeidenGlobal.
