Description
Sandy is preparing to celebrate her youngest daughter Laura’s graduation when her eldest, Jess, finds herself in trouble once again. Sandy’s compulsive need to rescue Jess forces her to confront the line between maternal love and obsession. Loved One comes back to the same subject as an earlier documentary by director Elizabeth Chatelain, about her sister Sarah and her years-long struggle with substance use disorder. For this fictional feature, Chatelain shifts her focus to the mother who spent years putting everything aside in an attempt to save her daughter. This tender, unflinching drama about love, care, and control will have its world premiere at LIFF.
Director Elizabeth Chatelain will be present for a Q&A after the screenings on October 10 and 11.
