A Moment of Science: LIFF Laboratory Edition

Laboratories in films are no longer populated by scientists without ethics, like Frankenstein, and test tubes filled with colorful, simmering, and ultimately meaningless chemicals. Indeed: science in film is becoming more and more realistic.

In a feature-length, evening-filling program, scientific journalist George van Hal (de Volkskrant) uses a diverse collection of famous film scenes, short sci-fi films, and other clips in order to demonstrate how fact and fiction have been influencing each other, and have been pushing each other to greater heights.

For anyone who has looked at everything from chalkboards filled with complex math equations to the search for intelligent alien life forms and wondered: what is actually true about this?

The LIFF laboratory screenings in LIDO 3 on November 4 and 5 require your participation! These screenings are an eclectic mix of cinema and science, on which we collaborate with, among others, the CHDR, Bioscopen Leiden, Leiden University, and distributor Cinéart. So come by and watch one of our amazing films, while your heart rate, your skills, your opinions or your taste buds are put to the test!
