Description
The lives of best friends and swimming rivals La Maestra and Paula revolve around training, fun, crushes and each other. But after a teammate follows Paula into the bathroom at a house party, La Maestra notices Paula is not acting like herself. The two turn to ChatGPT and tarot cards to make sense of the experience, but when the truth of what happened to Paula is revealed, a dilemma puts their inseparable bond to the test: stay silent or get revenge.
Combining a talented female director and amazing performances from its two leads, Chicas Tristes is a moving and powerful portrait of teenage friendship, girlhood and navigating trauma together.
Following the screening on October 13, there will be a discussion with the Dolle Mina Film Club. They use film as a starting point for conversations about current feminist issues, together with filmmakers and experts. The Dolle Mina Film Club is a collaboration between Dolle Mina, Vrouwen in Beeld and Vedette. As a traveling program, the film club brings historical feminist films back to the big screen while also showcasing recent work by female filmmakers. Each screening features its own program with filmmakers, experts and local guests. Dolle Mina focuses on four key themes: safety, autonomy, equality and visibility.
