The Farewell

Friday 1 November

19:00 - 20:40 Trianon 1

After learning their beloved matriarch has terminal lung cancer, her family opts not to tell her about the diagnosis, instead scheduling an impromptu wedding/reunion back in China. Headstrong and emotional writer Billi (Awkwafina) rebels against her parents’ directive to stay in New York and joins the family as they awkwardly attempt to rekindle old bonds, throw together a wedding that only grandma is actually looking forward to, and surreptitiously say their goodbyes. Based on an actual lie, director Lulu Wang (who will attend the festival) has created a wonderfully heartfelt story of family and togetherness.

Judy
Judy

The compelling story of Judy Garland, who was so much more than just the girl from The Wizard of Oz. She’s played by Renée Zellweger, who, in turn, proves once again that she is so much more than just Bridget Jones.

The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil

This action thriller from South-Korea is the most bad-ass film to play at LIFF this year. Sylvester Stallone agrees, because he is going to do a remake. It will be hard to top this original that has already screened at Cannes.
