Lu and Fati are teen mums living in a religious shelter in Buenos Aires. Sister Paola arrives there to take her final vows. When one of the girls runs away, the young nun takes care of her baby. Taking place in an inherently paradoxical setting where teenage mothers live with chaste nuns, Maternal tells its quiet and contemplative story in an assured and empathetic way. An impressive first narrative feature from documentary maker Maura Delphero.
