Days of the Bagnold Summer

Wednesday 6 November

14:15 - 15:41 Trianon 2

How to make a LIFF favourite? Take one 2012 award-winning graphic novel by Joff Winterhart about single-mom and librarian Sue and her fifteen-year-old Metallica fan Daniel, who are unexpectedly forced to spend a long, long, summer together in the same house. Add to director Simon Bird (The Inbetweeners) to the mix, and, finally, sprinkle with a delicious soundtrack by none other than Belle & Sebastian. Et voila! With Tamsin Grieg (Episodes), Alice Low, and break-out talent Nathanael Saleh.

Winning Best Picture at the Canadian Screen Awards and a Crystal Bear (Berlinale) is no small feat for a feature debut. A Colony is an honest and at times awkward story about coming of age in a small town, subtly set against the background of Canada’s colonialism and indigenous culture. Unique and touching.
